Computer Use Changes Over Time

The way I use computers has definitely changed over time. Several years ago, I only used computers for the word processing capabilities. I also remember when I was first introduced to the internet and we all had dial-up that seemed to take forever but had first introduced us to email. At the time, since things were so slow, I couldn't possibly have fathomed how far how fast things would go. I remember when I was in high school, I would sit at the computer on the phone with my friend, sending emails back and forth. We would let each other know when we got them and marvel at the amount of time it took to receive it.

As time progressed, I began to use my computer even more. It began to shape and simplify my life. I now can't go for an entire day without internet. I use it for a wide range of tasks from checking email, keeping in touch with friends, finding information, shopping, organizing my life, listening to music, watching movies....and the list goes on.

For my computer use, I have no idea what the future holds. I can say that I will use my computer more than I use it now in the areas that I already use it in. Things will be faster, more advanced, and the computer will do more of the work for me. As for the the stuff of what we see in sci-fi, I look forward to what 2013 may be like.

Online Resources

After stumbling through the website, I finally got my Delicious account set up! I typed in several topics we have been studying in class and was shocked by the amount of information that was quickly returned! Some were things that I am already using in class but took quite some time to collect. This is definitely a new skill that I will be putting to good use.

I am currently spending heaps of time searching the internet for everything I use in class. I then save the websites to me favorites list. I understand that this is clunky and not the best way of going about things.

I look forward to searching around on Delicious more to see what all it has to offer.

Gmailing

So here are some thoughts considering Gmail...
  • What are the main differences between Gmail and any email you've used before?
The main difference is with conversational style email. When I first started using Gmail, this was a big adjustment for me. I now have problems using email that is not conversational style. Another great feature is applying multiple labels to different emails, which is far better than
putting them in just one folder. I also like that the size of the attachment is much larger.

  • What would you like to be able to do with Gmail? Responses here might inform future learning opportunities in this course.
I would like to know all the other capabilities that I don't know about.
  • How could one of the tools in Gmail be used to positively impact student or teacher performance at ISB?
  • Students can stay better informed. Teachers can provide faster feedback to students.
